Stories of Female Trailblazers

The Norcal Columbia Alumni Club, in partnership with the Vault are gathering inspirational women from diverse walks of life, who are creators of communities and catalysts of impact in Tech, Fashion, Financial Services, Nonprofit, and Sustainability. These female trailblazers will share their experiences of cultivating their identity in their respective fields and discuss how, as women, there needs to be a culture of support and empowerment to grow and make the world a better place through diversity and inclusion. She established a diversity internship and mentorship programs with organizations such as the Black Women Lawyers Association and California Minority Counsel Program. She also partnered with nationally recognized diversity organizations to support opportunities for women working in the payments ecosystem. She is Visa’s first chief diversity officer and serves as the lead HR Business Partner for the Client Organization. She has led enterprise-wide change efforts for the advancement and retention of top performing talent inclusive of women and people of color. Sophia Mahfooz – COO, Girls in Tech (article) Sophia is a British-Afghani immigrant who grew up as a war refugee in Pakistan and has successfully broken into the Silicon Valley tech scene. She is the COO of Girls in Tech, the world's largest women in tech organization focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of girls through STEM education and career development in Technology. She is also responsible for Girls in Tech (GiT)’s female-only pitch competition, AMPLIFY. Jenni Riccetti – Head Designer, Riccetti; Fashion Designer, Mad Engine, LLC. (article)Born and raised in San Francisco, Jenni developed her love for sewing at the young age of seven and started her own clothing line Ricetti Clothing after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). She was one of the two fashion designers from San Francisco to compete on the design challenge television show, Project Runway, during Season 15, and creates clean, modern, and street-style wear for everyday people. Olli Payne – Co-Founder and CEO, Tolli (article)A proud high school dropout, Olli hopped on a plane to Brooklyn, New York from her small town in Georgia, at age 21 to be a part of TLC’s business reality show for entrepreneurial young women. After her team’s victory on Girl Starter and winning $100,000, she went full in with her co-founder to build out the location-based Tolli platform. As both are artists who understand the struggles of trying to make it in any artistic industry, their goal is to create a radical networking movement among those pursuing creative careers and eliminate the stigma of the “starving artist.” Alicia Ferratusco – Founder, FounderizeHailing from Germany, Alicia is a serial entrepreneur with a focus on sustainability practice leveraging Blockchain technology. Her newest venture, Founderize, connects a community of impact and sustainability entrepreneurs with the vision to build "The City of the Future", a fully sustainable urban ecosystem. She also co-founded Speechangel to empower people with mobility handicaps by providing a speech interface for smart devices and was the finalist of the 2015 EUXCEL accelerator competition. She has a diverse academic background ranging from Data Science to Acting. Elizabeth (Liz) Lee is an award-winning social entrepreneur. Liz is the founder and CEO of Online SOS, a nonprofit organization that supports targets of online harassment in the U.S. Beyond cyberbullying, online harassment can include threats of violence, impersonation, hacking, DDoS attacks, and non-consensual pornography. Liz received support from Fast Forward's nonprofit tech accelerator and New Media Ventures’s Resist and Rebuild Open Call and won NBC Comcast’s inaugural Pitch for Purpose event and Voqal’s R&D Challenge.
