Fireside Chat w/ Thumbtack CEO, Marco Zappacosta (CC'07): From DC Staffer to Silicon Valley CEO

Have you ever wondered what it takes to create billion-dollar internet company from scratch?

In 2007, Marco Zappacosta graduated from Columbia College with a degree in political science. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Washington DC to work in politics. After the financial crisis hit, he and a few friends decided to start a little internet company called Thumbtack.

By 2014, Marco's little company was funneling $2B in economic activity to plumbers, photographers and handymen.

With zero business training, Marco raised $150M from Google, Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital, valuing Thumbtack in the hundreds of millions (if not billions) of dollars.

In this special alumni spotlight event, we'll be interviewing Marco on stage in a fireside chat. Topics include:

• Marco's personal story.
• Obstacles and near-death experiences along the way.
• The US economy and the future of the labor market.
• Entrepreneurship in the internet age.

The interview will last about an hour. There will be an open bar and  time to socialize with other alumni before and after the interview.
